The Importance of Dental Instrument Sterilization

At Fresh Pond Dental, we take our jobs seriously and we do everything in our power to ensure our facility is clean, our dental instruments are sterilized and our patients have the safest environment possible for their dental appointments. Dental centers that don't clean equipment properly put patients at risk for disease transmission including Hepatitis B and HIV. We use the latest most technologically advanced cleaning equipment available at our dental center in Cambridge, because we care about the health and wellbeing of our patients.

Cleaning Methods

Your dentist in Cambridge, uses two steps - two different methods for cleaning dental equipment, an ultra sound cleaning machine followed by an autoclave.

  • Ultra Sound Cleaning Machine - Ultrasonic cleaners work by using sound waves that are outside of the hearing range of humans. These sound waves form oscillating bubbles in a process referred to as cavitation. The debris on the instruments is removed when the bubbles are activated.
  • Autoclave - This type of dental sterilizer uses steam at a temperature of 270 degrees to clean dental equipment.

Approved Cleaning Methods

Both the ultra sound cleaning machine and the autoclave are designed for infection control as well as safety. Instrument cleaning is done first and then disinfection. These two processes combined are approved by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and American Dental Association (ADA) and are proven to be an efficient method for keeping dental instruments sterilized and patients safe. At your Cambridge dentist office, the health and safety of our patients is our top priority.

Weekly spores tests are performed according to OSHA compliance as well.
