Oral-Surgery Preparations

Oral surgery can be quite simple and painless, especially if you opt for sedation dentistry. Whichever oral-surgery procedure you choose, there are preparations you should make. Alleviating Your Fears First, speak with your dentist or oral surgeon about any fears you might have prior to the scheduled date for the surgery. At Fresh Pond Dental, our dentists take the time necessary to fully explain the procedures and risks patients should be aware of. The dentist should also be willing to answer any questions. If necessary, sedation dentistry is a viable alternative that many people decide to go with.

Medication

While speaking with your dentist, inquire whether certain medications will be prescribed after the surgery, and let the dentist know what medications you are taking to avoid potential problems. Arrangements may need to be made to stop taking a certain medication for a period of time prior to surgery to address these potential complications. In some instances, an alternative pain or other medication can sometimes be prescribed, but the dentist must first be informed about your regular medications and allergies.

Transportation and Dental Health Arrangements

To avoid problems after surgery, the dentists in our family dentistry office recommend making arrangements with a friend or family member for the date of your surgery. The anesthetics required in oral surgeries are quite potent, and it is advisable that someone drives you to the dental office and back, picks up your medicine from the pharmacist, and otherwise looks after you.

If you, a friend, or a family member is looking for a reliable and affordable dentist’s office in the Cambridge area, the friendly staff at Fresh Pond Dental would be happy to make an appointment that fits with your schedule.
